Welcome to the Summer Reading 2019 Program page! Our theme this year is

A Universe of Stories

This year, we have reading programs for all ages, broken into three categories: Children (ages 3-12), Teens (13-18) and Adults (19+). Please look at the appropriate age level program for your interests (children that fall between two different programs may choose one program to follow). All participants are able to register for the program between July 1 and July 27th (it runs until July 31st).

The Library welcomes participants of all ages and abilities. The Summer Reading Program will be available anytime the library is open. For more information, call the Library at 304-473-4219 (ext 14 for circulation), visit our web page or Facebook page, or email.

Children (ages 3-12)

  • Children in this age group will receive a weekly reading log that can be completed to earn a prize. A completed reading log is made once the participant reads (or is read to) either 10 “easy” level books or 50 pages in a chapter book.
  • Every completed reading log each week for this age group will be eligible for a weekly prize.
  • Each entry will also be entered in to a grand prize drawing at the end of the Summer Reading Program.
  • We will have special STEM related activities available the entire day on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
  • Possible programs, dependent on parking lot…

Teens (ages 13-18)

  • Children in this age group will receive a weekly reading log that can be completed to earn a prize.
  • A reading log for this age group is completed once the participant reads anything (books, magazines, eB0ok, graphic novel, audiobooks, etc.) for 20 minutes per day for five days.  You can earn a second prize ticket for reading all 7 days in a week.
  • Another prize ticket can be earned by participating for all five weeks during the program.
  • Every completed reading log each week will be entered in to a grand prize drawing for prize baskets at the end of the Summer Reading Program.
  • Possible programs, dependent on parking lot…

Adults (ages 19+)

  • For adults, we will be doing reading Bingo cards.  Keep track of books you read during the month of July 2019 by writing the title and author on the appropriate bingo square.
  • You can play for bingo (horizontal, vertical, or diagonal) or aim high and play for a blackout card (all Bingo squares)! Pick up your bingo card at the library circulation desk.
  • Each completed Bingo card will equal a ticket to be entered into a grand prize drawing at the end of the program, and participants can have more than one entry.  Blackout cards will count as three tickets in the grand prize drawing.
  • Also, if you love a particular book or author and want others to read it, feel free to submit short book reviews (2-3 paragraphs) to the library.  These will be posted on the library’s website.  Each completed review will also earn an additional ticket for the grand prize drawing at the end of the program, and participants can have more than one entry.
