The Upshur County Public Library’s Book Club began in September, 2017.  It generally meets on the first Thursday of each month, barring holidays.  They try and read a combination of both fiction and nonfiction titles, and have read the following books since they started:

  • Hidden Figures, by Margot Lee Shetterly
  • Reader’s Choice (members picked books they liked and presented on them)
  • Spool of Blue Thread, by Ann Tyler
  • Orange is the New Black, by Piper Kiernan
  • Saints at the River, by Ron Rash
  • Blue Cotton Gown, by Patricia Harman
  • Under the Banner of Heaven, by Jon Krakauer
  • The Zookeeper’s Wife, by Diane Ackerman
  • Rocket Boys, by Homer Hickham
  • Unbroken, by Lauren Hillenbrand
  • The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot
  • A Princess Found, by Sarah Culberson

Here is the list of books the club has tentatively scheduled to read over the next year.  Take a look at our catalog in order to find a copy of these books to read.  All books should also be available in eBook format as well. A themed month is a month where members pick books on their own to read on a particular theme (i.e. in February, reading romance fiction), then at the meeting where they discuss about the book, each one gives a little talk about the book they picked.
